Harry's on Fillmore

Harry’s on Fillmore
2020 Fillmore Street
415-921-1000
A

The first place owned and operated by the one and only Harry Denton who many feel is the maestro of mirth and the good life in San Francisco. This place was the saloon equivalent of Star’s which introduced the city to late 20th century cafĂ© society under the toque of Jeremiah Tower. Harry’s on Fillmore was jam packed from opening night and made the upper Fillmore a must stop destination for hipsters, hucksters and hapless wannabe’s that follow the leader. Harry’s has consistently offered a great burger, mouthwatering and a notch above most of the rest with the best ingredients and attention to every critical step it takes to turn out a great meat sandwich. The prime chuck is hand formed into a thick, round patty and cooked to order with authority. A choice of good cheese, a thick, dense, toasted bun and farm fresh lettuce, tomato and onion are delivered to the table, and you’re set to dress it up as you wish with a choice of mustards, catsup, steak sauce, mayo and you’re off to burger heaven.

The burger comes with some almost perfect fries that are always crisp and hot, and perfect for dipping into aioli or the good mayo they provide. Harry’s has a mahogany bar as long as the building and rich with detail and history which is well stocked with just about every fine liquor money can buy. They have a short but diverse menu in addition to the great burger, a wine list and a good selection of boutique beers. Service is usually pretty good and carried out by some attractive, young gals who are also smart and well trained and can talk about anything under the sun. The crowd is usually young and well dressed, not too rowdy and for the most part respectful of others. This is a well managed, long lived Fillmore Street institution that continues to offer one of the great SF burgers.
