The Daily Grill

Daily Grill
347 Geary Street
415-616-5000

Prominently located across the street from The St. Francis Hotel and Union Square, this chain steakhouse offers the sophisticated meat gourmand excellent quality beef and all the trimmings in the center of this great city. A long, masculine, clubby place with a huge bar and several dining rooms, this steakhouse is a perfect addition to the retail center of town, offering a high quality and reasonably priced alternative to Morton’s on the other side of the St. Francis. Next door to one of our great treasure’s, Lefty O’Doul’s, this white linen restaurant has a huge menu that includes many steaks, pasta dishes, seafood, specials using veal, lamb and poultry in a wide variety of rock solid preparations and presentations. Because the quality and prices are so friendly, The Daily Grill is almost always packed, but you can eat at the bar and also in the lounge area at bar height tables with bar stools, and the menu is served at all hours. The burger here is very good, starting with a huge portion of fresh ground chuck which is hand formed into a thick, round patty and charbroiled or grilled to order. Served with your choice of cheese which is melted and just starting to run over the meat onto the platter and sharing the plate with a variety of excellent tomato, lettuce and onion this hunk of beauty rests on a toasted bun that is a perfect home for the juicy meat, melting cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and good quality condiments.

The fries are house cut and served in a generous portion and have always come crisp and hot which is no mean feat in a large, crowded restaurant. They also offer some excellent onion rings and great substitutions or side orders. I’ve asked for and been provided with my burger served on toasted garlic bread which was delicious, and my understanding is they will try and accommodate all requests. The servers are seasoned professionals, they have a full bar and extensive wine list and know how to get theater patrons in and out in deference to curtain time for the nearby ACT and Broadway plays almost next door. This place is great for a burger and almost everything else they serve.
