Beep’s Burgers
1051 Ocean Avenue – San Francisco

The Ingleside’s claim to burger fame, this is a neighborhood drive-in type joint that is a real burger joint and fountain still chugging along after generations. Quarter pounder cheeseburgers with a generous slab of melted American cheese and good fixings is their basic entrĂ©e to the burger world, and it’s a good one. Tired by some standards and pretty mediocre and sloppy by others, this isn’t home to any revolutionary burger developments but it is what most burgers were like around the time the 19 cent burgers came into being more than half a century ago. This is the type of burger joint that also serves rice bowls and pork chops if that gives you a hint of their something for everyone mentality, and of course they can’t do such variety much justice with so little vision and focus. What you see here are a lot of kids and ethnic families who choose this type of burger over the alternatives and that is good considering it’s a block away from a McDonald’s and is more expensive.
They offer a veggie burger and a turkey burger and their fries are previously frozen from what I can tell. The fries are also inconsistently cooked and aren’t a very good deal price wise. You see a lot of students out here, mostly San Francisco State and City College, but there are also a horde of high school kids, so it can loud and unruly at times which makes it more for the burger to go crowd. This is a greasy spoon burger joint that has a following and only the burger devotee and expert willing to try them all need pass this way.
