Barney's is a small, independent chain based in San Francisco that made its reputation for offering a variety of really 'gourmet' burgers along with excellent salads, soups, vegetarian, turkey and other 'faux' burgers and some of the best fries around. They're located on Steiner between Lombard and Chestnut and on 24th Street just West of Castro in the city. Both locations have outdoor seating and have complete menu's that feature their great burgers in a variety of presentations. The beef and bun are top shelf as are the lettuce, tomato, onion and condiments. Their fries and onion rings are really good too and they fry with the right oils and off heart friends choices in all categories of their menu. They also are one of the few burger joints that have some really good deserts and everything they sell comes in huge portions so its all great value. The staff in the two places in the city are kind of lax and sloppy, but very friendly so its easy to overlook. The burgers are among the best available locally.
